Jon is a principal in the public accounting firm of Shaw & Nielsen, P.C. and a founding partner. He uses his more than 17 years of experience to provide consulting, tax accounting and payroll service to his clients.
Jon has had extensive practice in tax compliance and planning for companies residing in multiple states. He has worked with corporations, partnerships, estates, trusts and individuals. Jon also has many years of experience handling payroll, sales tax and other local tax issues with clients. He has represented clients before the IRS and state authorities and successfully advocated for the clients, resulting in good outcomes for the taxpayers involved.
Jon graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and then later graduated from Weber State University with a Master of Professional Accountancy specializing in tax. Jon specializes in small-businesses taxation, accounting, QuickBooks consulting and payroll. He has worked particularly closely in the following industries: automobile dealerships, recreational vehicle dealerships, trade contractors, construction, medical professionals and real estate professionals.
Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, playing indoor soccer, basketball, traveling and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.
An EA (Enrolled Agent) is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns. Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
